IVA / Drupal / Relaunch, publishing & search

Specialist information. A clearer platform.

IVA needs a website that makes specialist information accessible and supports the team maintaining it. SDEV designed and relaunched IVA.de, connecting content, search and editorial automation. Since March 2024, we have evolved the platform from Drupal 8 to Drupal 11 and continue its development and operation.

01 / The information challenge

Specialist content.Many routes into it.

Industrieverband Agrar e. V. (IVA) is a German industry association covering crop protection, plant nutrition, plant breeding and biostimulants. IVA.de brings together specialist topics, magazine articles, news, events and publications.

Readers arrive with different questions; the editorial team manages material that changes over time. The platform needs to make information easier to find while giving the team practical ways to publish, review and maintain it.

02 / What SDEV built

Full website design. Built and relaunched with Drupal.

SDEV created the full website design and built the Drupal components behind it. Content migration and redirects supported the November 2025 relaunch, bringing specialist topics, articles, publications and events into a consistent website experience.

The work also addressed the platform behind the pages: an audit, performance optimisation, hosting migration and a deployment process across development, staging and production. Continuous integration and tests support ongoing changes; accessibility work targeted WCAG 2.1 AA.

Full website design

SDEV designed the public experience and reusable components, giving different types of specialist content a consistent presentation.

Audit & migration

An audit informed performance and hosting improvements. Content migration and redirects supported the move to the redesigned website.

Search & publication ordering

Solr search, filters and Drupal Commerce connect information discovery with publication downloads and ordering.

Editorial automation & integrations

AI-assisted drafting, content-review reminders and event imports support recurring tasks while the team retains editorial control.

Measurement & reporting

Matomo and GA4 reporting gives IVA and SDEV a basis for reviewing content demand and visitor journeys.

Deployment & ongoing support

Separate development, staging and production environments support changes before release, alongside continuing hosting and maintenance.

03 / Publishing and findability

Prepare the content. Help people find it.

A specialist website needs to work for both its readers and the people behind it. SDEV connects publishing, search and editorial workflows so IVA can organise its information, help visitors find it and maintain it after publication.

A consistent publishing foundation

IVA’s topics, articles, publications and events need to work together. SDEV built structured Drupal records and reusable components that give the editorial team a common foundation.

Related information can be connected and maintained across the platform, rather than managed as isolated pages.

Events connected to the website

IVA manages events in a company-wide system. SDEV built a custom integration that brings them into Drupal and notifies editors when they are ready for review.

Editors add website context and metadata before publishing. The integration keeps event information synchronised with the external tool.

Useful routes into specialist information

A large content collection is only useful when visitors can find the right material. Solr search and filters let readers narrow IVA’s information by content type or topic.

Consistent layouts and links to related content help readers continue beyond the search result.

Draft preparation with editorial control

Preparing descriptions and working drafts takes editorial time. SDEV built source-based AI workflows that use transcripts, position papers and video information to prepare material for review.

The team checks technical meaning, context and wording before deciding what is ready to publish.

Editorial tools in practice

Inside the editorial operation.

Four examples show how SDEV connects practical editorial needs with tools built into the platform. The interactive demonstrations use fictional content.

Practical assistance for everyday editing.

Small writing tasks add up across a busy editorial team. SDEV integrated AI assistance into the Drupal editor for drafting, revising, spelling checks, summaries and tone adjustments.

Editors can work on text where they already manage their content, then review the suggestion before saving it.

Review the suggestion

From source material to a working draft.

Video transcripts and position papers contain valuable material, but preparing it for the website takes work. SDEV’s workflows turn those sources into draft descriptions, scientific working text or website records.

The source provides the starting point. Editors check the proposed content and retain responsibility for publication.

Content stays useful after publication.

Keeping a large information platform current takes more than publishing new pages. SDEV built an automated review workflow for IVA that brings existing content back to the right people and gives the editorial team a clear view of what needs attention.

It helps IVA maintain specialist information, position papers, regulations and figures as they change.

Publications, campaigns and events also reach people away from the website. SDEV’s Drupal QR-code tools connect those touchpoints with online content.

The editorial team can manage destinations and review scan activity in the same platform, helping them understand how these routes are used.

04 / Platform architecture

Drupal organises the content. Search and workflows connect around it.

Drupal, integrations and platform operation

The website, editorial tools and external systems need to work together. Drupal 11 provides the shared content foundation; Solr supports discovery, and Drupal Commerce connects publications with ordering.

SDEV’s custom workflows connect event imports, AI-assisted preparation and ongoing content review. Editors can work with incoming material and review feedback within a maintained platform, while keeping control of publication.

Development, staging and production environments support delivery and testing. SDEV continues hosting and maintenance, with Matomo and GA4 reporting helping inform improvements.

Drupal & information discovery

Why use Drupal for an information platform?

Drupal gives IVA a shared foundation for specialist topics, articles, publications and events. Structured records, reusable components and editorial workflows support a consistent website and ongoing content maintenance.

How does IVA.de use Solr search?

Solr retrieves website content and supports filtering and sorting. Visitors can narrow IVA search results by content type or topic and sort by date.

How does Drupal Commerce support IVA publications?

IVA’s publication records connect information and downloads with ordering journeys. Drupal Commerce supports the publication-ordering part of the platform.

How do editors manage QR codes in Drupal?

IVA’s editor tools support QR-code labels, status, expiry, PNG downloads and destination information. A detail view shows the code preview and scan activity over time for publications, campaigns and events.

AI & connected workflows

SDEV integrated AI assistance for routine editing and source-based draft preparation. The tools support video descriptions, scientific working drafts, revisions, spelling checks, summaries and tone adjustments. Editors check suggestions before use.

Does AI publish IVA content automatically?

No. The described AI workflows prepare drafts or suggestions. Editors check the material and retain responsibility for approving publication.

How are external events synchronised with Drupal?

SDEV’s custom integration imports events as unpublished Drupal entities and emails editors when review is needed. Editors can edit records, add metadata and publish them. Event information stays synchronised with IVA’s external event-management system.

Are imported events published automatically?

No. Events are imported unpublished. Editors review and enrich each record before deciding to publish it.

Content maintenance

How does automated content maintenance work?

Published pages due for review are emailed to their referenced contacts using personalised links. Contacts approve the content or flag changes; non-response triggers a second notification. Editors and administrators see status, history and individual feedback. Position papers have a separate review process and require explicit confirmation after updates.

Can IVA configure the content-review process?

Yes. Review intervals, start dates, administrator emails and exclusions can be configured to suit different content types. Position papers have separate settings and recipients. A test mode lets the team check reminder email content without sending it.

Quality & continued development

How is IVA.de’s use measured?

Matomo and GA4 support traffic, acquisition and visitor-journey reporting. SDEV uses this reporting to review content demand and inform improvements.

What accessibility work was included?

The relaunch included accessibility work toward WCAG 2.1 AA. Accessibility remains part of ongoing platform review and improvement.

How does SDEV manage deployment and testing?

IVA uses separate development, staging and production environments. SDEV implemented continuous integration and began writing tests as part of the technical improvements following the audit.

What could the next stage of AI and automation include?

Further work could extend source-based preparation, content review and information discovery. Scope and priorities depend on IVA’s editorial needs and the live platform.
